Ayurvedic Tips in Preparation for Fall and Winter

Get ready for the transition from 'hot to cold'.  An important action now is to gently strengthen Agni. The popular ginger tea is a good option, but what if I can't tolerate ginger? Alternatives for sensitive stomachs are:

Cumin, caraway, anise or fennel tea. To release the essential oils, roast the seeds first.

Once the first viruses have entered our system, we need to cleanse Rasa Dhatu, the first tissue following the digestive tract. We can do this in a number of ways:

  • Ginger tea or ½ teaspoon of ginger powder in warm water 3 times a day.
  • Diaphoretic herbal teas: e.g. elderflower, lime-tree blossom.

Bitter substances are also great for cleansing rasa, such as yarrow or dandelion. My tip is the Ayurvedic bitter plant Kalmegh (Andrographis panniculata). The plant or plant extract is available in powder or capsule form. Take 1 g of powder in warm water or ginger tea 2-3 times a day at the first sign of fatigue, etc.

  • Eat lighter
  • Keep calm and get a good night's sleep.

These tips should get you through the fall and winter :).
