Interview with Dr. Philipp Maas, Part 2
PD Dr. Philipp André Maas is a research associate at the Institute of Indology and Central Asian Studies at the University of Leipzig. Previously, he worked at the Universities of Vienna and Bonn. His research interests include Nyaya philosophy, Samkhya Yoga, Indian medicine (Ayurveda), and the history of philosophy and religion in early classical South Asia.
He supports the hypothesis of a common authorship of the Yoga Sutra and its oldest commentary, traditionally attributed to Vyasa. In the interview, he explains his arguments and research methods, talks about the relationship between Patanjali's yoga work and Samkhya philosophy, and explains why the Indian government wants to make Sanskrit the world language.
